Michal Cohen
Michal is a “Jacqueline of many trades”, all of which are strongly linked to research and to writing. She is a qualified attorney, both in Israel and in England, but currently chooses not to practice as such. She qualified as a professional archivist and worked at the Central Zionist Archives. Today Michal works as a translator for an Israeli information technology firm, where she works on big projects which involve both the banking and governmental sectors.
Noa Granot
Noa is a freelance editor and translator who has always had a deep interest in written expression, language, and creative processes. She likes to see people’s ideas and visions transform into communicative written text. Noa moved from Detroit, Michigan to Jerusalem at the age of 20 and graduated from the Hebrew University with a BA in linguistics. After completing her degree, Noa felt drawn to explore movement arts. She studied dance, zen shiatsu touch therapy, and qigong. Noa’s ongoing qigong practice continues to feed into her intuitive understanding of the creative process and her ability to attune to her clients and their writing. Noa enjoys immersing in nature, cooking, and learning new things.
Reem Jaber
Reem is a language teacher, a learner and a researcher. She currently works as an English language teacher at Collège des Frères in Jerusalem. She graduated from Birzeit University, with a BA in English language and literature and a minor in English-Arabic translation. She has an MA in English language education from Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi in Istanbul, Turkey. Her thesis focused on learning English through language exposure. Reem is a native Arabic speaker and is fluent in English and Turkish. She has experience as a freelance translator and interpreter and is now involved in the English Editing and Editorial Analysis program, at David Yellin College. Reem is passionate about language research, applied linguistics, literature and writing.
Rena Landman
Rena has a BA in religion from Barnard College and an MA in Jewish studies from Yeshiva University. When she moved to Israel in 2008, she pivoted from teaching Judaic studies to becoming a certified English teacher. She currently teaches English in a junior high school and mentors new English teachers. Her immersion in English language education inspired her to pursue English editing on a professional level. She is passionate about education, Judaism, and her family, and welcomes the challenges of synthesizing her life as an American and as an Israeli.
Luba Monakhov
Originally from Moscow, Luba lives in Israel since she was 15 years old. At 17, she started writing articles for Israeli newspapers for the Russian speaking community. At 21, she switched careers from journalism and studied English Literature and Slavic Studies at the Hebrew University. Luba worked as a subtitler in Elrom Studios until, two decades ago, she became a freelance translator. Luba works mostly with legal content, although she enjoys translating movies too. She is a certified professional in translation (En-He) and Hebrew editing.
Rebecca Nokrian
Rebecca has a M.Sc. degree in biology, in Botany and Ecology, from the Hebrew University (cum laude). For a second career, Rebecca chose to become a tour guide, presenting Israel to tourists from around the world, in English, Spanish or Portuguese. As a tour guide, Rebecca expresses her love for the country and her expertise in different fields of knowledge, such as history, archaeology, nature and gastronomy.
Rebecca loves nature and feels a strong connection to the beautiful sites and scenery in Israel, especially those in Jerusalem. Her hobbies include cooking and developing vegetarian or vegan recipes, photography and travel. In her spare time Rebecca enjoys watching Korean dramas & movies. She has translated many of those in the past.
Shiran Shevach
Faculty Advisors
Dr. Devorah Preiss an NYC transplant since 2005, has earned a B.A. in journalism at NYU as well as M.A. and Ed.D. degrees in instructional media and technology from Columbia University, Teachers College. She teaches her students at the David Yellin College of Education and Efrata College how learning with digital tools may power learner-centered pedagogy. She has produced and directed numerous videos and is currently at work on a documentary chronicling the origins of orthodox women’s prayer groups.
Dr. Yosef Gotlieb is a writer, editor and educator who established the Program in Editing and Editorial Analysis at David Yellin College of Education in 2009. He continues to direct and lecture in the program while engaged in international development and climate change activities focused on the Middle East and Central America. He is the author of Rise: A Novel of Contemporary Israel, Self-Determination in the Middle East and other monographs and articles. As an editor, he specializes in medical and scientific texts and works dealing with international relations.
